Youth Board of Cyprus programmes for Active Youth and Youth Entrepreneurship Development (3/2017)-EN
ActionsYouth Board of Cyprus programmes for Active Youth and Youth Entrepreneurship Development (3/2017)-EN
In an effort to support young persons in Cyprus, the Youth Board of Cyprus implements two distinct programmes aiming to activate young people and to promote and develop entrepreneurship. Both programmes are included in the National Action Plan for Youth Employment and are co-funded by the European Social Fund. The programme “Youth Guarantee to Activate and Empower Youth in Cyprus: an integrated communications campaign” (Active Youth) aims to inform and activate young people, mainly persons Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEETs), on available employment schemes under the European Union’s “Youth Guarantee Initiative”. The programme also aims to encourage young people to become registered with the Public Employment Service in order to receive specialised assistance. The ultimate goal is to combat youth unemployment and educate both young people and other stakeholders involved in youth issues through their participation in educational workshops and seminars. In the context of the Active Youth programme, two major surveys and 10 focus groups will be conducted in order to assess the current situation and trace the level of young people’s knowledge about the Youth Guarantee. Following these, a major media campaign will be carried out. Five young people will be selected as youth guarantee ambassadors and will actively participate in this media campaign. The Youth Entrepreneurship Development Programme aims to support unemployed young people aged 15 to 29 who want to undertake entrepreneurship initiatives and become entrepreneurs. At the same time, the programme’s overall goal is to promote business culture in Cyprus. Through this new supporting mechanism, young people with limited knowledge and networks will be given the opportunity to explore their business potential, develop viable businesses and create decent working conditions for themselves and for their peers. The programme will be implemented through rounds of seminars all over Cyprus. Each round of seminars, in which participation is free, have a total duration of 28 hours, and upon completion, each participant will receive individualised counselling from experienced business mentors for a period of six months. Both programmes were officially presented by the Youth Board of Cyprus during a press conference, which took place in Nicosia on November 16 2017, in the presence of government officials as well as young persons.
